Northumberland County Council is recruiting for an enthusiastic, well-motivated Virtual School Education Mentor to join the Virtual School’s careers’ team. The role involves working with care experienced young people so that they fulfil their potential in education, employment and training. 
Northumberland Virtual School has experienced and talented people who are passionate about ensuring disadvantaged children and young people enjoy an education which meets their individual needs.  We work closely with partners to raise educational standards, promote inclusion and wellbeing, to improve the life chances and opportunities for our cared experienced children and young people. 
 
The successful candidate will have experience and confidence in working with young people, leaders in schools, colleges, training providers, colleagues in children's social care to promote education, employment and training for cared experienced young people.  The core role will be working with disadvantaged young people who have experienced adverse childhood experiences and trauma, identifying and overcoming barriers to EET (education, employment and training).  This will include CV writing, interview preparation and completing job applications.     
Experience of working in an education, training or a social care setting with disadvantaged groups of young people (including UASC), removing barriers to attendance and engagement are essential.  The role does include lone working with young people and transporting them to interviews when needed.
