ROLE OF THE JOB
The primary purpose of Highways & Transport is to manage, maintain and improve infrastructure, including highways, flood defences and the coast, for the benefit of those who choose to live, work, visit and invest in Northumberland.
Highways & Transport is responsible for the provision of three key functions across Northumberland. We manage, maintain and improve the highway and transport network, to make sure that everyone can travel safely and without significant delay or disruption on our roads, footways and cycleways throughout the year. We also arrange home to school transport and procure supported public transport services and provide the Lead Local Flood Authority and Coastal Protection Authority roles.
The primary function of the Highways & Transport Design Team is the design, project management and delivery of highways, transport improvement and traffic safety schemes. With a current capital programme of £30M these schemes range from traffic calming and major maintenance schemes through to car parks and junction improvements. We also design and project manage major highway improvement projects including new bypasses, link roads and access roads for new developments. As well our own schemes we also take on work for internal and external clients.
Reporting to the Principal Engineer (Roads) you will be part of a team of multi-disciplinary professional engineering and technical support staff, carrying out the design and project and financial management of a variety of highway schemes.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
We are looking for Engineers at all levels with experience in highway design, traffic safety, CDM, NEC contract preparation/management, project, resource and financial management. You will also need to be able to contribute to the development of the team and deliver a challenging workload.
The ability to converse easily with Elected Members, senior management, Clients and customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
