The post is fixed term for 24 months. 
Term time plus 10 days 
Band 5 
Based at County Hall in Morpeth. 
 
Northumberland County Council is recruiting an enthusiastic and motivated Virtual School Education Mentor to join our multi-disciplinary ESLAC (Education Support for Looked After Children) team who supports the education of Cared for Children. 
 
You will have an active role in the Virtual School contributing to raising aspirations and improving achievement for children in care. You will oversee and support a caseload of pupils who may have complex behavioural difficulties, SEND and/or attendance issues who live outside of Northumberland and attend other Local Authority and Independent schools.   
You will play an active role in Care Teams for children in care who live in other Local Authorities, supporting Designated Teachers in schools and wider care teams to create stable learning environments, breaking down barriers, promoting inclusion and supporting pupils to do the best they can in education.  Experience within Secondary education is essential for this post. 
 
You will work in collaboration with schools and professionals to ensure pupils have a high quality Personal Education Plan (PEP) in place within statutory timescales and you will attend care team meetings as required. You will have an understanding of the factors which impact school non-attendance and disengagement from education.   
 
This role may include direct work including delivering therapeutic interventions e.g. Thrive and travel outside of Northumberland as and when needed.
