Northumberland County Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Choice Advisor to join our Schools Organisation and Resources team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to children and families across the county by helping them access the education and support they need.
In this rewarding role, you will provide impartial advice, information and advocacy to parents and carers—particularly those facing challenges such as exclusions, SEN transitions, or difficulties securing a school place. You will work closely with schools, local authority teams, and partner agencies to ensure every child receives their statutory entitlement to education.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Supporting families to navigate admissions, exclusions, EHCP processes, and school transitions.
  • Representing parents at panels, reviews and hearings.
  • Working collaboratively with schools and multi‑agency professionals.
  • Supporting vulnerable, new‑arrival and emergency admissions.
  • Ensuring accurate record‑keeping and safeguarding compliance.
We are looking for someone with:
  • Knowledge of SEND processes, school admissions and safeguarding.
  • Experience working with children, young people, and families.
  • Strong communication, advocacy and problem‑solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently, manage a busy caseload, and build positive relationships.
If you’re passionate about improving outcomes for children and ensuring fair access to education, we’d love to hear from you.
Apply today and help shape brighter futures for Northumberland’s children.
