ROLE OF THE JOB
The post holder is responsible for the day-to-day inspection and monitoring of works undertaken by statutory undertakers, private contractors and local authority highways in accordance with the provisions of the New Roads & Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991, the Traffic Management Act (TMA) 2004 and in compliance with the Northumberland County Council Street Works Permit Scheme. Also, the identification, recording and issuing of defects as well as the issuing of penalties for non-compliance.
You will have day to day use of a handheld/tablet for the recording of all inspections, raising of defects, compliance notices etc.
You will be required to attend site meetings prior to the commencement of works on the highway, to agree traffic management requirements and to specify or approve appropriate working methods. You will also be responsible for investigating and responding to complaints and enquiries.
You will be expected to work in all weathers and will have the use of a council vehicle to travel to and from sites on a daily basis.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
- Valid UK drivers licence
- You must have experience of using a laptop for responding to correspondence and be able to demonstrate confidence in the use of IT.
- You must have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be confident in dealing with difficult situations and managing conflicting demands.
