ROLE OF THE JOB
This is a great opportunity to play an important role supporting Northumberland County Council's £175m Town Regeneration Programme.
You will provide support to project and programme managers and our wider team developing and delivering major capital and revenue projects. This includes the £35m Ashington Regeneration Programme, £21m Borderlands Place Programme, £110m Energising Blyth Programme and £3.5m Cramlington Regeneration Programme. These programmes include new leisure, cultural, youth, community and educational buildings and sustainable transport infrastructure and public realm works. Projects are varied in scale and at different stages of development located in communities across the county. Each project will make a major impact and difference to the lives and well being of our residents and help our towns to be productive places, something you can help become a reality.
We're looking for an experienced Project Support Officer who can provide assistance to ‘client side’ project and programme management activities. The role requires attention to detail and the undertaking of a range of administrative duties working with autonomy and initiative, to have a proactive, solutions and delivery focussed approach. It requires candidates to have experience and expertise based in a similar setting with knowledge of public sector systems and processes, external funding and reporting, and working in partnership operating effectively within a political and governmental framework.
The successful applicant will organise and manage the provision of project-based administrative support to senior colleagues by undertaking a wide range of tasks including providing co-ordination and support for project progress reporting both internally and to external funders and in the development of bids and project business
cases . You will work as part of a team of eleven full and part time staff, responsible for the development and delivery of town regeneration in Northumberland through project and programme management, co-ordination of partnerships being delivered within the County.
We require an enthusiastic team player who is a good administrator, has excellent communication skills and an eye for detail. You will have the ability to quickly build working relationships within the Team and across the Regeneration Service.
The Service:
The post is located within the Regeneration Service, part of the wider Economic Development and Growth Directorate whose core purpose is to deliver the Council’s priority of Economic Growth. This includes the influencing of national and regional policy and co-ordinating and driving forward of the delivery and management of regeneration and economic growth projects.
The role also involves working closely with colleagues across the Place and Regeneration Directorate, senior representatives of our private, public and third sector stakeholders, and with our business, community and public sector partners on a range of Town Partnerships, you will be responsible for creating and helping to secure commitment to delivery, meeting the objectives of the County Council, North East Combined Authority, Borderlands Partnership and UK Government.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
You will have experience in the following key areas relating to supporting Project and Programme Management activities:
- Excellent organisational and administration skills
- Extensive experience of minute taking and other associated office duties
- Experience of using Microsoft Office or Office 365 including use of spreadsheets
- Ability to follow processes and prioritise own workload
- Have an awareness of financial procedures
- Knowledge and experience in a related field e.g. regeneration, economic development or similar local Authority/Local Government services
- Knowledge and experience in activities including monitoring and evaluation, stakeholder engagement and consultation, partnership co-ordination, inputting, analysis and use of data and database systems, budgets and finances relating to externally funded projects and the monitoring of spend against specific projects
The job is based in County Hall in Morpeth and you will be required to travel around the county. We operate flexible working arrangements, including home working.
