Music Tutor - Guitar

Music Partnership North are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative, and creative guitar tutor to work in Northumberland schools. The successful candidate will be joining a team of around 30 in Northumberland, along with a wider network of teachers and practitioners in the Music Education Hub for Northumberland and Newcastle. This is a permanent, salaried post – working 36 weeks per year (during term time) 

The role involves:

· Teaching children and young adults in individual, small-group and large-group settings from beginner level to Grade 8+ standard.

· Organising group and individual tuition in schools and develop ensemble opportunities including planning, preparation and delivery.

· Collecting and updating pupil data records as specified by Music Partnership North for Arts Council England and assisting with all administrative tasks relating to the collection of student information through maintaining accurate, confidential and efficient filing and record systems.

· Undertaking regular assessment of pupil progress and provide feedback to pupils, schools, families, both verbally and through Music Partnership North annual reporting systems.

· Minimum Grade 8 or equivalent professional performance standard

· Knowledge of musical development and progression, teaching repertoire, methods and strategies relevant to instruments taught

· QTS, degree or diploma status and knowledge of additional instruments (bass, ukulele etc.) are desirable.

· In order to meet the travel requirements of the post a UK driving license is required.


REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
 
Experience of teaching children and young adults from age 5-18 in small group and large group settings is essential and experience of teaching in out of school settings would be beneficial.
The successful candidate will have commitment and enthusiasm in maintaining high standards of practice and positive outcomes for children. With excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, you will not be afraid to think innovatively and creatively to provide quality musical opportunities for all.
Due to the travel requirements of the post you will ideally have access to a car for which you will receive a mileage allowance.
Essential experience includes:
· Experience of working with young people through music
· Experience of performance
· Experience of teaching mixed ability groups and differentiating planning, presentation and delivery in accordance with this
· Experience of planning schemes of work to maximise progression and achievement in students
· Experience of using ongoing assessment strategies to inform future planning and delivery
