Blyth Riverside Resource Centre - General Assistant 

(Fixed term to cover maternity leave to 05/08/2026, 20 hrs PW) 

 
The role:
You will undertake cleaning and food preparation at the Blyth Riverside Resource Centre assisting the Cook in the preparation of a lunch time meal and refreshments to staff and service users. 

The Blyth Riverside Resource Centre provide daytime activities and care and support to adult with Learning Difficulties, some of whom have complex care needs and physical disabilities. 

You will assist the cook in all aspect of the operation of the kitchen assisting with the basic preparation, cooking and service of food and beverages, setting up the dining area, washing tables, serving meals, cleaning catering equipment and maintaining a hygienic kitchen environment. 

General kitchen duties will include washing up and cleaning of equipment, cupboards, and surfaces. 

You will assist the cook in the receipting and managing of stock, monitoring of fridge temperatures and the safe handling and storage of food in accordance with current food hygiene standards. 

You made be required to cover the cook's duties from time to time in their absence.

General Assistant, 20hrs PW, Fixed Term to 05/08/2026 (Band 1 SCP 1 £24,413 pro rata, £12.65 per hour)  
Working hrs 9.30 to 2.00 Mon to Fridays (including a ½ hrs break) 

 
Who are we looking for? 

An individual with a basic food hygiene qualification, experience of undertaking food preparation, an ability to undertake manual tasks associated with food preparation, experience of working in a catering environment, applicant should demonstrate a committed to maintaining a safe and clean environment to a high and consistent standard.
