This is an exciting opportunity to join our team in Parking Services. We are constantly working to support Northumberland to be welcoming to everyone by ensuring that parking is readily available enforcing parking restrictions and managing parking facilities. Based at McDonald House, Berwick Upon Tweed.
Our Civil Enforcement Officers patrol the streets of Northumberland and your primary role will be to encourage considerate parking by taking appropriate action against illegally parked vehicles so that other drivers can go about their daily business with minimum disruption.
ROLE OF THE JOB
- You will be responsible for observing and enforcing parking controls in a fair and consistent manner in accordance with the regulations laid out in the Traffic Management Act 2004, Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO’s), associated legislation and locally determined procedures
- Your key goals are to keep traffic flowing and to make sure that everybody who drives in Northumberland has an equal and fair opportunity to park and go about their daily business
- You will be expected to carry out enforcement both on-street and in off-street car parks either on foot or as a member of a mobile team.
- You may also be responsible for cash collection from pay and display ticket machines and disc dispensers. There is also involvement in enforcement of Dog Fouling and Littering in line with the relevant Acts
- The successful applicants need to be able to work shifts, including some weekends and Bank Holidays (Weekend enhancements are payable)
- Full training provided including a course on how to handle difficult situations
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
- Experience of dealing effectively with demanding members of the public and difficult situations
- Recent experience of working with information technology and experience of dealing with difficult and irate customers is essential.
- Experience of working in a parking enforcement environment would be advantageous but not essential
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team
- Must be able to drive
- Ability to walk for extended periods of time, in all weathers
