Northumberland Council is seeking to appoint a Children and Young Peoples Habilitation Specialist who is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with a Vision loss.
ROLE OF THE JOB
The post is peripatetic and part of the Low Incidence Needs Team (LINT) within the authorities wider Inclusion Service.
LINT works across the 0 – 25 age range within both mainstream and special school settings. Applicants will be expected to work flexibly where required across Northumberland.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
Ideally, we are looking for applicants who hold a recognised qualification in Habilitation. However, we will consider applicants with substantial experience of supporting people with vision impairment in either a HLTA or a Rehabilitation role, who meet the criteria for and are willing to complete the qualification in Habilitation.
Applicants must have excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic, self-motivating and flexible with a solution-focused attitude. Good IT skills are important, and you must be able to use a range of applications within Microsoft 365. You should be confident in devising and delivering training both online and face-to-face.
Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the impact of vision loss upon learning and development and have experience of working children, young people and their families in a teaching or facilitative role.
You should have experience of working as part of a team delivering services to those with vision impairment. Applicants should have knowledge of the Quality Standards for Habilitation and have experience of completing advice on environmental access.

You must hold a current driver’s license and have access to a car or means to mobility support and be able to meet the travelling demands of this post.
