Job Information
Are you excited by the idea of shaping something new, leading with vision and making a real difference to the Social Care workforce across an entire County?
Do you thrive in a role where no two days are the same? From driving high-quality clinical training to supporting providers out in the community and influencing how services are delivered. Are you passionate about raising clinical standards and want the freedom to bring your ideas to life, then we would love you to consider joining us as our new Clinical Lead.
This is not a traditional clinical role. There is no caseload. Instead, you will have the mandate to help raise standards across the whole of Northumberland, and the autonomy to put your ideas into action.
About the Northumberland Care Academy
The Care Academy plays a critical role in the social care workforce across Northumberland supporting recruitment, training, and retention of the people who care for our most vulnerable residents.
The Opportunity: Lead. Innovate. Influence.
As principal clinical authority for the Care Academy, you will be the architect of clinical training across the county. This is a senior-level platform to:
- Shape clinical strategy: Lead and influence the workforce clinical training programme and competency framework for all community services across Northumberland.
- Drive workforce innovation: Lead the implementation of change initiatives, evaluate new training models, and address health inequalities through education.
- Act as the expert voice: Provide authoritative clinical advice and direction to internal teams, NHS Trusts, universities, and external providers on complex clinical issues.
- Unify clinical standards: Work in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams to align clinical training and safeguarding across the County.
- Hold professional accountability: Ensure all training activity meets CQC regulations, NICE guidance, and the NMC Code.
- Manage resource strategically: Oversee the Academy budget, commission external training provision, and identify opportunities for income generation.
About You
We need a self-motivated catalyst, someone comfortable leading with authority, working across boundaries, and shaping outcomes.
You will bring:
- First level NMC Registered Nurse (Part 1 or 3) or equivalent registered AHP

- Experience commissioning and managing external training provision and budgets
- Outstanding communication skills the confidence to engage and influence senior clinicians and managers alike
- A strategic mindset: ability to analyse complex workforce data and translate it into policy and commissioning decisions
- A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle
You Are Someone Who...
- Sees the big picture: You look beyond the immediate, considering long-term implications and shaping strategy accordingly.
- Finds a better way: You challenge the status quo and enjoy coming up with fresh, original ideas to improve practice.
- Brings people with you: You influence and inspire, articulating the rationale and winning others to a shared vision.
- Acts on evidence: You seek out information, analyse it rigorously, and use it to make well-informed decisions.
- Makes things happen: Self-motivated and confident using initiative, you drive actions forward without waiting to be asked.
- Communicates with clarity: You simplify complex clinical ideas and adapt your communication to every audience from frontline workers to senior leaders.
Why Join Us?
- Influence without burnout: Lead and shape practice at county scale without carrying a clinical caseload.
- Structured flexibility: This part-time role (18.5 hours) is designed to fit alongside your other professional or personal commitments, giving you genuine work-life balance. Our base is County Hall, Northumberland, however you will be working across the region with the opportunity for homeworking.
- Freedom to innovate: A senior platform with the autonomy to introduce new ideas and see your direct impact across Northumberland's social care services.
- Professional status: A respected, senior-level position working alongside NHS Trusts, universities, and community providers as a peer, not a passenger.
