We are looking for a Welfare Rights Team Manager for the Council's Welfare Rights Team. 

This small team provides training and advice to front-line workers in adult social care and children’s services, and the voluntary and community sector. 
In complex cases, it provides advice and support directly to service users, including where appropriate representing people in tribunals. 

The Team Manager and other members of the team also provide advice to senior managers about broader policy issues connected with the benefits system, and support the development of effective advice arrangements across Northumberland, including advice provided by third sector organisations and other public bodies.

The team is based in the directorate responsible for adult social care. This role is permanent, full time and is based at County Hall in Morpeth, you will be encouraged to develop links with service managers and a strong understanding of how social care services operate and how their work interacts with the benefits system. 

We are looking for someone with extensive experience of welfare rights work including challenging benefit decisions to First tier Tribunal level, and with experience of working alongside statutory social care services.  You should have a good understanding of the needs of ill and disabled people and the range of services and benefits which support them, and experience of developing, organising and delivering training.  You should have the skills required to prepare or guide the preparation by others of submissions to decisionmakers at all levels in the benefits system, including tribunals, on the application of the law to the circumstances of individuals.  You should have experience of supervising the work of others.
