Waste Transfer Station Attendant (14.5 hours per week) - Staff Bank

Job Information

Northumberland County Council’s Staff Bank provides a pool of highly skilled temporary workers who are looking for a long-term placement, or who want to work flexibly within the council. If a team needs support due to sickness, common staff shortages, or general vacancies, they call upon registered bank members to fill available assignments. These can be filled via a long-term assignment for up to 12 months or on an ad hoc basis. 

 

ROLE OF THE JOB
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to assist in the day-to-day running of a busy Waste Transfer Station at our Cowley Road Depot in Blyth on a part time basis, working 14.5 hours per week and you must be able to work the following shifts:

Thursday 18th June 2026  8am - 4pm
Friday 19
th June 2026  8am - 3:30pm
Thursday 25
th June 2026  8am - 4pm
Friday 26
th June 2026  8am - 3:30pm
Thursday 2
nd July 2026  8am - 4pm


This is a dynamic role, no two days are the same and your responsibilities would include:
  • Inspecting vehicles and the waste they are delivering into our Waste Transfer Station.
  • Directing site users to the correct skips and bays. 
  • Keeping the site litter free, safe and tidy for all users.
  • Manage capacity of skips and book exchanges when necessary.
  • Work with site management to ensure compliance with the site licence.
You must be physically fit, able to multi-task and prioritise your own workload, good problem-solving and communication skills are essential to ensure the smooth running of the transfer station.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
We are really looking for someone who is friendly, courteous and able to get on with site users, but also able to challenge in areas of site safety when necessary, such as users not wearing the correct PPE or depositing waste that the site is not permitted to receive etc.

The Staff Bank is managed by the Temporary Staffing Team, who you can contact via temporarystaffing@northumberland.gov.uk. You will be subject to Northumberland County Council's pre-employment checking process which includes a minimum of 2 references covering the past 3 years, health clearance and proof of right to work in the UK and depending on the assignment you may be required to undertake a DBS check.
