Virtual School Lead Education Support Officer

Northumberland County Council is recruiting for a motivated and inspirational Lead Education Support Officer and SENCo to join our multi-disciplinary Virtual School team.  

The successful candidate will have direct experience of working with the cared for community, a working knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and recent experience of working in or with schools. 

As the Lead Education Support Officer and SENCo you will be passionate about wanting to make a difference to the educational outcomes for cared for and previously cared for children, ensuring they receive their entitlement to full time good quality education. You will also promote the education of children with a social worker and children in kinship care. 

You will monitor the education of children in care and care leavers by working with schools, education settings and care teams to ensure that high quality PEPs (Personal Education Plan) are in place that drive achievement. 

You will manage a small team within the Virtual School team that focuses on accelerating progress, raising aspirations and achieving stability for all of our learners.  You will lead on meeting the training needs of our Designated Teachers and care teams to break down barriers and provide professional challenge where needed. Quality assurance of PEPs and high impact of Pupil Premium Plus will be a core part of the role.
