Applications are invited for the position of Trainee Procurement Officer in the Corporate Commissioning and Procurement Service.


The Service:
Providing strategic procurement for Northumberland County Council, the Corporate Commissioning and Procurement Service aims to provide a sustainable and cost-effective procurement service which helps drive economic benefits and service quality for all stakeholders.
 
The Role:
The role sits within a Contracting Team which is well-established and has positive relationships across the Council. We operate in an agile environment meaning that the successful applicants can be flexible in their work location.
 
The central procurement office sits in County Hall, Morpeth but there are a range of other working sites available across Northumberland and a mix of office and homeworking is also offered. The team has a commitment to work-life balance and Senior Managers who understand the importance of flexibility.
 
About the Role:
Reporting into the Strategic Category Manager, the Trainee Procurement Officer will be responsible for the delivery of and supporting a defined number of low value/low risk procurement projects.
 
This is a developmental role designed for an individual who wants to follow a development pathway from low value, low risk procurement tasks through to a procurement officer role which will provide sustainable development of procurement expertise and procurement activity on behalf of the organisation. The successful applicant will demonstrate a knowledge of public sector procurement and commercial business acumen, ideally developed from previous experience working in the in the public sector.
 
Those joining the Procurement Service will have a unique opportunity to make a real contribution in supporting the ongoing development of this successful service. Successful applicants will be proactive and have a desire to learn new skills; they will also possess good communication and team working skills.
