Northumberland County Council’s Public Protection Services’ purpose is to protect and improve public health and safety through the provision of services across a wide range including environmental health, trading standards, animal welfare and
community safety. You will be part of a small but busy team that provides a range of technical support to the service including general administration work but also has a key role in providing the highest level of customer support to residents, businesses, and visitors to Northumberland.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, conscientious, and extremely organised
person who works well within a team but also on their own; who can priortise their own workload, and has experience of dealing with customers and working with computer systems
• Location – West Hartford Fire & Rescue HQ and Home
• Salary – starting at £22,369
• Contract type - Permanent
• To work 5 days per week Monday-Friday.
• To provide effective technical and administrative support including the provision of a triage service, often being the first point of contact for members of the public, businesses and other council employees.
• Effectively respond to and deal with routine written, telephone, electronic and personal service enquiries from the public, professionals and other interested parties to be undertaken in accordance with the established procedures and quality standards.
• Maintain appropriate work records to the required service standards observing data protection and confidentiality controls.
• Undertake information gathering, data analysis etc using ICT systems to assist in the production of timely and accurate management information and statistical returns including the monitoring of customer care feedback.
• To administer the post system, including the opening, scanning, registering and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail.
• Monitor and maintain adequate supplies of stationery and general office equipment, re -ordering when necessary.
• Procure and receive goods and services as well as the raising of invoices, and the upkeep of accurate budget monitoring.
• To transcribe recordings of interviews taken under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act to be used as evidence in criminal prosecution cases.
• The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Good standard of general education with evidence of competence in literacy and numeracy.
Knowledge of issues relating to the Public Protection Service.
Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of Microsoft 360.
Administrative qualification ie NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
