The Public Protection Service is currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Technical Officer to join our Pollution Control Team. The team is based in West Hartford Community Fire Station, Cramlington, Northumberland, NE23 3JP and sits within the Public Health, Inequalities & Stronger Communities Directorate. With 14 officers, the Pollution Control Team’s areas of responsibility include noise and statutory nuisance, air quality and smoke control, identification and remediation of contaminated land, permitting of industrial sites and regulation of private water supplies.
ROLE OF THE JOB
You will be responsible for the effective management of a varied caseload relating to noise and statutory nuisance, including responding to service requests and providing advice. You will investigate complaints, carry out inspections, and enforce a range of legislation to ensure compliance, taking appropriate enforcement action where required.
You will ideally have an interest in pollution control and a good practical use of information technology. An understanding of relevant legal processes and enforcement procedures is desirable. You will be an effective team player with strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently to organize and manage a varied caseload. However, applications will be considered from individuals who are looking to develop a career in this area and have previous experience in the sector.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the delivery of statutory services that protect the environment and public health across Northumberland.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
Successful candidates will have:
- A Level 3 qualification
- A full driving licence, valid in the UK
