Job Information

The Community and Environmental Health Team (CEHT) is currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated Technical Officer (Housing). The Team is based in West Hartford Community Fire Station, Cramlington, Northumberland, NE23 3JP and sits within the Council’s Public Protection Service.  This Service is responsible for a wide range of regulatory functions including Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Building Control and Environmental Enforcement.   

 

With 16 staff, the CEHT’s areas of responsibilities include, noise and nuisance investigation, housing standards, public health and operational community safety.  Reporting to the Senior Environmental Health Officer (Housing), the successful applicant will be responsible for case management of a varied workload including, housing standards inspection and enforcement across the housing stock, HMO Licensing, Selective Licensing, public health investigations (including drainage, filthy and verminous premises etc.) and complaint investigation.   

 

The successful candidate should ideally have both a substantial knowledge of housing technology and inspection techniques, and a professional understanding of associated legal processes and enforcement procedures.  However, applications would be considered from individuals who are looking to develop a career in this area and have previous experience in the sector.

Requirements of the job:
  • 2 Science A levels or NVQ level 3 equivalents and thorough professional knowledge of housing technology and standards 
  • UK Driving Licence
