The Service 

Northumberland County Council are looking for a skilled individual to assist in the ongoing delivery of our IT Service Provision, working within the Cloud Services Team.  

 

The role

This position will be working within the Cloud Services Team and the successful candidate will require a high level of technical skill in specific areas relating to Cloud infrastructure (predominantly Microsoft Azure/365 but also AWS and Google), but must be able to act on your own initiative and communicate effectively with all stakeholders including Councilors, Senior Officers, Third Party Suppliers, colleagues and Citizens.

A high level of working knowledge and experience is required in the following areas of the Microsoft 365 platform: 

  • Management of Microsoft 365 and Azure Cloud platform and services.

  • Management of NCC devices using MS Intune and Apple Business Manager.

  • Management of Teams Telephony including physical handsets. 

  • Management of Microsoft Teams, policies and permissions. 

  • Management of SharePoint Sites, permissions, policies and documents. 

  • Securing council data within the cloud (management of O365 Purview) including the use of data loss prevention tools.

  • Extensive working knowledge of Active Directory including knowledge of scripting to automate basic tasks. 

  • Sound working knowledge of DNS - External and Internal.

  • Sound working networking knowledge, including VPNs for fault finding. 

  • Management of Web Application Firewalls and associated services. 

  • Microsoft IIS, Website publishing and fault finding.

  • Management of Web filtering Solutions (NetSweeper beneficial).

A level of knowledge/understanding in the following would also be beneficial: 

  • Management of specifically Barracuda Web Application Firewall, Web Application as a Service and Load balancer.

  • Management of Web filtering Solutions, specifically NetSweeper.

  • Investigation of new products and contact within suppliers to discuss technical details and cost.

  • Producing and managing security policies for data management and access.  

  • Knowledge of SharePoint site structure, metadata and site widgets.

  • Knowledge of power automation (development of automation to simplify council daily tasks).

  • Power BI reporting for 365 (costs, usage etc).

  • Cloud data governance (FOIs/investigations).

Applicants should have experience within the IT sector preferably with some of that time spent in an environment allowing skills to be obtained in the above.

The job involves working with multiple stakeholders across many sites and excellent customer service and communication skills are required. The successful candidate will join an established team within authority and will have access to colleagues who can assist where necessary. This position is based in County Hall, Morpeth, but you may be required to travel regularly to other NCC office locations.

Essential requirements

  • A technical qualification or evidence of competency in IT.

  • Ability to absorb new technical information and apply it effectively. 

  • A general standard of literacy and numeracy. 

  • Actively undertaking ongoing continuous professional and personal development. 

  • Competence in using Microsoft Office.  

  • An active desire to provide effective customer centred services. 

  • Very effective IT skills and ability to understand and develop the use of IT to achieve work objectives. 

  • Numerate and able to analyse business related statistics. 

  • Ability to work methodically and systematically. 

  • Adopts a collaborative approach to work. 

  • Ability to absorb technical information, when it is presented systematically and apply it effectively. 

  • Works under routine supervision. Uses minor discretion in resolving problems or enquiries. 

  • Works without frequent reference to others. 

  • Has sufficient communication skills for effective dialogue with colleagues. 

  • Ability to work in a team. 

  • Ability to plan, schedule and monitor own work, within short time horizons.
