Social Worker - Best Interest Assessor

This is an exciting opportunity for 2 experienced Social Workers with post qualification experience and a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) qualification to join Northumberland County Council Adults, Ageing & Wellbeing Directorate.

As you work to provide comprehensive assessments, you will benefit from a good balance of autonomy and support. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of your caseload but will have regular supervision and the full support of your Team Manager.
It is essential that you have a clear understanding of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Human Rights Act and related legislation along with the Local Authorities statutory duties.

Essential requirements:
  • Degree in Social Work (or equivalent), applicants must hold a Social Work England registration.
  • A BIA qualification with relevant post qualifying experience.
  • An excellent working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Human Rights Act and related legislation.
  • An ability to work as part of a team and autonomously.
  • The ability to prioritise workload
  • The ability to carry out Deprivation of Liberty safeguards assessments and make recommendation's concerning people’s liberty.
  • The ability to write excellent reports that will withstand legal scrutiny
  • Due to the nature of this role, it is an essential requirement that the post holder has a valid driving licence and has access to a car they can use for work purposes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills.
