Job Information

ROLE OF THE JOB

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and qualified Trading Standards Officer to progress into a managerial role as a Senior Trading Standards Officer in Northumberland. Alternatively, you may already be a TSO in a managerial role that is looking to broaden their skills.

The Trading Standards and Animal Health team are part of the Public Protection Service, sitting in the same directorate as Fire and Rescue, Corporate Health and Safety and Civil Contingences. Service delivery is achieved through a blend of office-based (Fire Service HQ, Cramlington) and agile working – including working from home.

The remit for the post holder will be a balance of line managing a number of staff and operational service delivery of the full range of Trading Standards work. Ideally, you will already be qualified in either Food Standards or Feed Hygiene but this is not essential, provided that you are willing to commit to supported achievement of one, or both of these qualifications within an agreed timescale.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with a positive mindset, that is able to think on their feet and be flexible in their approach to service demands across the whole of the County.  Other essential qualities include strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to deal firmly but fairly with people, and the capability to organise and prioritise a demanding, varied workload.

For an informal chat about this role, please contact Laura Brooks by email: laura.brooks@northumberland.gov.uk or tel: 01670 623705
