Senior Programme Officer (Strategic Transport)

ROLE OF THE JOB 

 

  • Developing, monitoring and delivering transport projects and strategies.
  • Working withstakeholders, partners and communities to secure funding and deliver transport priorities.
  • Analysing and presenting data to support decision-makingand policy development.
  • Preparing reports and presenting at Council meetings, public meetings and stakeholder groups.
  • Managing budgets, contracts and reporting to ensure projects run smoothly.
  • Providing guidance and support to junior colleagues involved in transport projects.
  • Representing the Council and contributing to wider corporate planning and service delivery.

 

You’ll be part of the Strategic Transport team within the Transport and Environment Directorate. The team develops and delivers transport policy, strategy and projects across the county, working closely with councillors, communities, government departments and external partners. 

We’re looking for a motivated professional with a strong understanding of transport planning and policy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels. You’ll need to be confident managing projects, budgets and contracts, and skilled at presenting information clearly. 

An interest in sustainable travel – particularly active travel initiatives such as walking, wheeling and cycling – would be highly valuable in this role. 

Based at County Hall, Morpeth, with hybrid working arrangements (home/office/site visits) and occasional evening meetings. 


REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB 


  • BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent education in a relevant subject.
  • Significant experience in transport project and/or policy development.
  • Knowledge of transport planning legislation and wider policy issues (e.g. land use, economic development).
  • Strong analytical and IT skills, including spreadsheets and presentations.
  • Ability and licence to drive to current EU standards.
