Senior Environmental Health Officer (Noise control and Nuisance) 

 

The Service 

The Community and Environmental Health Team (CEHT) and currently seeking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated Environmental Health Officer (EHO) to take on the role of Senior within the Noise and Nuisance Team.   The Team is based in West Hartford Community Fire Station, Cramlington, Northumberland, NE23 3JP and sits within the Council’s Public Protection Service.  This Service is responsible for a wide range of regulatory functions including Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Building Control and Environmental Enforcement.  

 

With 16 staff, the CEHT areas of responsibilities include, noise and nuisance investigation, housing standards, public health and operation community safety.  Reporting to the CEHT Manager, the successful applicant will directly manage a team of four professionals, leading on noise and nuisance investigation and assist in the matrix management of a further two staff.  They will be expected to work closely with the Team’s two other senior officers and in particular, will be required to provide cover for the Senior EHO (Housing).  There will be opportunities for integration and close/joint working with the Community Safety Team. 

 

This is fast paced environment with a focus on outcomes for residents with a highly varied workload reflecting the mixed urban and rural character of the County.   

 

The role 

The post holder will provide leadership and direct supervision for their team and must therefore have a strong professional background in noise and nuisance investigation, experience of housing standards would be highly desirable as would previous management experience.  Experience of Community Safety or the investigation of anti-social behaviour would be desirable. 

 

A strong commitment to staff development is essential, as is the ability to work to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and undertake project work.

Essential requirements: 

 

Applicants must, 

 

  • Hold a recognised graduate or post graduate qualification in Environmental Health. 

  • Have significant experience in the investigation/enforcement of noise and nuisance and the associated legal framework. 

  • A driving licence 

 

Derisible requirements 

 

  • Experience of housing standards investigation and enforcement including a current HHSRS qualification. 

  • Management experience. 

  • A professional qualification in acoustics 

  • Experience of Community Safety and/or investigation of anti-social behaviour
