Who we are:

Our homes accommodate 25 young people aged 6 - 17, our main aim is to offer an exceptional family focussed caring environment where children and young people can feel safe and thrive in order to meet their full potential.

The service is inspected by Ofsted on a yearly basis. Currently Thorndale House Children’s Home is rated as Good. It is crucial that everyone in our team is committed and motivated to meeting the needs of our young people and have high aspirations for each and every young person we live and work with.

Working at Thorndale House is not just a job, it’s one of the most rewarding career choices you will make. Our work is challenging and physical but if you have the drive and dedication, resilience and passion then you will enjoy an exciting and stable career with us.
It is important that our children are supported by adults with a range of professional and personal experiences, ensuring they have access to positive role models who can offer a range of skills and values to support our children to achieve their best possible outcomes in life.

The Band 4 is an entry level post therefore, we encourage applications from people with experience in a similar discipline, but this is not essential as we appreciate that there are adults that hold transferrable skills and values that meet the requirements of a suitable candidate but have never had the privilege of working directly with children and young people.

We offer a comprehensive induction and shadowing process for all new staff, excellent training and development opportunities throughout your employment. Northumberland County Council acknowledges the importance of legacy planning, ensuring that our managers of the future are developed from within.

The staff centered approach is supported by the offer of regular one-to-one sessions to discuss and reflect on your work. As part of Northumberland County Council, you also benefit from a family-friendly policy, pension contributions, leisure and culture discounts at council venues and a range of other discounts.
