We're looking for a pool of Residential Support Workers to work in our children's homes across Northumberland!

Job Title: Residential Support Worker

Salary: £24,294 - £25,979  (Single Premium Rate £2491-£2664 and Market Force Allowance of £5,000 per annum payable in addition to the basic salary) 

Job Location: Various locations across Northumberland

Various Shift Patterns Available (Day Shift and Night Shift)

The Role:

As a Residential Support Worker, you'll be working with young people aged 10 to 17, many of whom have experienced significant trauma. You'll create an environment of reflection, personal attention, and specialist help. Your role is crucial in helping young people develop the values, skills, knowledge, self-control, and direction they need to thrive.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional care and support to young people in secure accommodation.
  • Help young people develop life skills, social skills, and self-control.
  • Create a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable young people.
  • Support young people in their education and personal development.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and personal growth.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.

 

Requirements:

  • Good general education.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training up to Level 3/4 Children and Young People’s Workforce Diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Compassion, patience, and resilience.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Northumberland County Council’s Staff Bank provides a pool of highly skilled temporary workers who are looking for a long-term placement, or who want to work flexibly within the council. If a team needs support due to sickness, common staff shortages, or general vacancies, they call upon registered bank members to fill available assignments. These can be filled via a long-term assignment for up to 12 months or on an ad hoc basis.

The Staff Bank is managed by the Temporary Staffing Team, who you can contact via temporarystaffing@northumberland.gov.uk. You will be subject to Northumberland County Council's pre-employment checking process which includes a minimum of 2 references covering the past 3 years, health clearance and proof of right to work in the UK and depending on the assignment you may be required to undertake a DBS check.
