About the Role
As a Refuse Loader, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our communities clean and tidy. This is a physically demanding role that requires commitment and a strong work ethic.
Key Details:
- Start time: 7:00AM
- Finish time: Approximately 4:30PM.
- Working days: Monday to Thursday.
- Pay rate: £12.45 per hour.
- Depot Locations: Blyth, Morpeth, Hexham, Alnwick, Stakeford, and Berwick.
What You’ll Do:
- Collect and empty household or commercial waste bins onto collection vehicles.
- Assist the driver in completing routes and operating collection equipment safely.
- Maintain the cleanliness of collection areas and vehicles (ensuring areas are tidy after collection and treating vehicles with respect).
What We’re Looking For:
- Physical fitness – You’ll need to be able to walk long distances, be on your feet for extended periods, and lift heavy loads.
- A positive attitude and reliability.

Northumberland County Council’s Staff Bank provides a pool of highly skilled temporary workers who are looking for a long-term placement, or who want to work flexibly within the council. If a team needs support due to sickness, common staff shortages, or general vacancies, they call upon registered bank members to fill available assignments. These can be filled via a long-term assignment for up to 12 months or on an ad hoc basis.

The Staff Bank is managed by the Temporary Staffing Team, who you can contact via temporarystaffing@northumberland.gov.uk.
