Job Title: Public Health Principal

Service: Public Health, Stronger Communities and Inequalities

Location: County Hall, Morpeth, Northumberland

Salary: Local Authority Band 13 (£67,437 to £71,008)

Status: Fixed Term – 4 years

Hours: 37 hours

Are you passionate about improving people’s health and wellbeing?  Are you seeking to become a public health specialist via the UKPHR portfolio route? 

We are looking to recruit an experienced and ambitious Public Health Principal to join our knowledgeable and forward-thinking public health team.  This will be an exciting opportunity to lead on children and young people's public health, all age public mental health and suicide prevention, and aspects of health protection. They will work closely with our two Consultants in Public Health and report to our Executive Director of Public Health, Stronger Communities and Inequalities.

This is a developmental position, and the post holder should be actively pursuing public health specialist registration though the portfolio route. They will be expected to achieve specialist UKPHR registration by the end of the 4-year fixed term period.

The post holder will be an experienced public health professional with excellent leadership and technical skills who can develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders across the public and VCSE sectors, including children and young people services, UK Health Security Agency, and with communities. They will be able to provide expert public health support and whole system leadership to ensure an evidence-based approach for commissioning and developing high quality and equitable services.

The post holder is also expected to play a central role in our strengths-based approach to tackling inequalities and wider corporate responsibilities. In Northumberland tackling inequalities is one of three corporate priorities and we have established a 20 year generational change mission.  Working to a strengths-based model of asset based community development (ABCD) we are also working with the Institute of Health Equity to ensure the Marmot eight policy objectives frame our partnership and system work.

The diversity of the County means in many ways we are like a small country having urban, rural and coastal areas.   We are commutable with good road and rail links to County Hall, Morpeth.
