Project Manager

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Information

Northumberland County Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019. Since then, we have been busy identifying and delivering projects that attract investment to the county, create new jobs for the green economy, and reduce our carbon footprint.

We have set out details of the projects we need to deliver and a route to achieving carbon neutral by 2030 in our most recent Climate Change Action Plan 2024-2026, which has recently been approved (https://northumberland.moderngov.co.uk/documents/s21680/Final%20master%20Climate%20Change%20Action%20Plan%202024-26.pdf) and will now be enacted.

If you enjoy solving complex problems, working with people to enact change, and want to work towards making Northumberland the greenest county in the UK, then we would love to meet you.

Reporting to the Senior Climate Change and Sustainability Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing the planning, implementation and long-term delivery of projects within the climate change team. You will be supported by the wider team comprising of project managers, data analysts, project support, and senior management.

Your portfolio of projects will include development and delivery of business cases for the implementation of further solar carports, non-domestic retrofit and low carbon heating replacements including heat pump installations, and the roll out of solar PV across the school estate. You will be encouraged to initiate workstreams relating to energy efficiency, renewable energy generation and decarbonisation of heat. You will have an opportunity to make a difference to global climate change whilst supporting local people and communities. For an example of the type of projects you will be planning, designing and delivering, please see our Climate Action Plan 2024-2026.

Demonstrable knowledge and experience of project management techniques and a successful track record of managing capital projects from inception through to delivery is essential. Previous experience of working within the energy efficiency and renewable energy sector and/or within sustainability/climate change teams within the public sector is desirable but not essential

We are interested in applications from people from all backgrounds and are especially interested in applications from a diverse range of individuals.

Northumberland County Council is proud to be considered an employer who represents equality and diversity across all service areas.

If you would like to discuss any of the above informally, please contact the team via the climate change inbox: climate@northumberland.gov.uk.
