Job Information
This is an exciting time to join Northumberland County Council’s Procurement Service.
Our Procurement Service is at the heart of delivering smart, strategic and sustainable procurement solutions. We’re passionate about driving high quality services, achieving real savings, and delivering better outcomes for our communities. Following a recent BEST review, we are implementing a series of improvements that will strengthen procurement across the organisation. As part of this transformation, we are moving to a category management approach—modernising how we work, increasing our strategic impact, and enhancing the support we provide to services across the council.
To support this change, our team is expanding, and we are recruiting four Procurement Specialists and one Procurement Officer across our construction related categories: Civil Engineering & Highways, Construction & Property, Fleet & Transport, Facilities Management/Repairs & Maintenance, and Waste Services. These roles offer an excellent opportunity to help shape a major uplift in procurement capability while building a rewarding career within a growing, forward-thinking team.
Procurement Officer
Are you ready to take your procurement career to the next level? We’re looking for a motivated and ambitious Procurement Officer to join our high performing Procurement Service at Northumberland County Council. About the role
You’ll be part of a friendly, well-established Contracting Team with strong relationships across the Council. No two days are the same—expect variety, challenge and the opportunity to have a genuine influence on how we buy and deliver services.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility of hybrid working, splitting your time between our County Hall office and home. We currently expect colleagues to work a minimum of one day per week in the office, with senior leaders who genuinely understand the importance of work–life balance and empower you to work in a way that brings out your best.
What we’re looking for
Reporting to the Strategic Category Manager, you’ll lead and support a range of procurement projects—perfect for someone eager to step up from low-risk procurement work into more complex, high value procurement whilst supporting with above threshold or high-risk projects.
This role is ideal if you:
