Make a difference to the lives of pre-school children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Northumberland Portage Service as a Portage Home Visitor. This is a part time permanent position, 3 days per week, whole year. The successful candidates will work throughout Northumberland.
Portage is a pre-school home visiting educational and support service for young children with special educational needs and disability. The aim of Portage is to help parents and carers to become teachers of their own children in their own homes.
Working collaborative with other relevant professionals is essential and there will also be a training aspect to this role. You will also work in a variety of different schools/settings to support transitions.
The post will sit in Northumberland’s Low Incidence Needs Team.
Experienced in working with families and pre-school children, you will have a recognised Level 4 qualification, an in-depth knowledge of child development in the early years and approaches to supporting vulnerable children with SEND and their families.
You will be well organised and self-motivated. You will be a good listener and communicator; you will also have an empathetic and sensitive approach.

The ability to work as part of a team is essential but it is important to note that for much of the working day you will be a lone worker, once training and the induction period is complete.
The means and ability to travel across Northumberland is also an essential part of the role.

We are offering:
- A permanent contract for 0:6 (3 full days whole year)
- Salary – Band 6 (£30,559 - £33,366 pro-rata actual salary; £18,335 - £20,019)
