Job: Plasterer – Staff Bank Opportunity
Service: Housing Services, Repairs & Maintenance
Grade: £16:35 ph
Location: Blyth, Cramlington, Seaton Delaval, and Alnwick
Northumberland County Council is seeking skilled Plasterers to join our Staff Bank, supporting the repair and maintenance of our housing stock, public buildings, and other premises. As a member of the Staff Bank, you’ll be available to pick up ad-hoc assignments as needed, ranging from short-term to longer-term cover.
Please note: This is not a permanent role. The Staff Bank is a pool of candidates who can be called on to provide flexible support when required.
What you’ll be doing:
- Able to undertake all aspects of plastering, including tiling, and flexibly carry out other multi-skilled construction tasks such as minor plumbing, joinery, and decoration as required.
- Preparing surfaces, constructing or fitting new fixtures, and undertaking remedial works with professionalism and care.
- Maintaining materials and tools, keeping accurate records, and reporting any discrepancies.
- Working safely and efficiently in tenants’ homes, empty properties, and public buildings, following all Health & Safety regulations.
- Providing excellent customer service, protecting tenant furnishings, and keeping work areas clean and tidy.
- Supporting apprentices and trainees, offering guidance, supervision, and contributing to their development.
- Flexibly undertaking multi-skilled tasks, including minor plumbing, tiling, and joinery as required.
About you:
- City & Guilds Level 3 in Plastering (or equivalent) with extensive experience in the trade.
- Time-served with the ability to carry out all aspects of the trade.
- Confident in working in a customer-facing environment, delivering high-quality workmanship.
- Skilled in multi-trade work with strong problem-solving and organisational abilities.
- IT literate to use mobile and council systems for work allocation and reporting.
- Motivated, self-directed, and adaptable to a variety of work environments and flexible hours.
- Full clean driving licence essential.

Northumberland County Council’s Staff Bank provides a pool of highly skilled temporary workers who are looking for a long-term placement, or who want to work flexibly within the council. If a team needs support due to sickness, common staff shortages, or general vacancies, they call upon registered bank members to fill available assignments. These can be filled via a long-term assignment for up to 12 months or on an ad hoc basis.
