The Role
The People team in Northumberland County Council is made-up of a friendly, exciting, and dynamic team of HR professionals.
This role will sit within the HR Schools team that is directly managed through an SLA arrangement by North Tyneside Council. The HR Advisor (Schools) will be part of a team of three HR Advisers that provides advice, guidance, and support to clients (mainly schools within Northumberland) across a wide range of HR services. The team is supported and managed by Schools HR Managers.
Working as part of the Schools HR team, the new post holder will provide an efficient dedicated first line support primarily to school leadership team members and where applicable to the wider governing body and management board members, on a wide range of HR policy and practice matters.
This would include terms and conditions, employee relations, disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, reorganisation and restructures, job evaluation, change management, employee engagement and performance management.
The successful postholder will benefit from excellent support within the team and will be able to excel in a culture where we look to continually improve and develop so that our clients continue to see us as a service of choice.
Please note the postholder will need the ability to independently travel to school locations across Northumberland as a regular and frequent requirement of the role and to support with meetings outside of normal office hours at school locations as and when necessary.
This is a full-time 37 hrs per week post but would also welcome conversations with anyone looking to work part-time.

Essential requirements:
· Qualified to degree level in a Human Resources related subject or willingness to work towards.
· Up to date knowledge of UK employment legislation and best practice and experience of applying this
· Recent experience of supporting case management and providing advice and guidance
· Proven ability to work on own initiative and within a team
· Strong ability to use interpersonal skills to negotiate and influence
· Strong ability to communicate in person, telephone, email, letter, etc
· Practical approach to problem solving
· Recent previous proven experience of working in an HR role is essential
Although not essential we would welcome applicants that have previous public sector experience or specific schools experience. Experience of Green book terms and conditions and Teachers terms and conditions would also be desired, although not essential.
