Local Authority Designated Officer

Job Information

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced social worker to join Northumberland County Council as a Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO). This role is well suited to someone who is motivated, resilient, and thrives in a multiagency environment. You will be part of our well-established, supportive and experienced Children’s Safeguarding Unit, which is committed to achieving the highest standards of care and safety for children and young people in Northumberland.

As the LADO, you will ensure that safeguarding allegations about individuals who work or volunteer with children are managed effectively. You will be the first point of contact for professionals seeking advice and guidance to manage concerns and allegations about individuals who work with or volunteer with children and young people.

Using your extensive social work and safeguarding experience you will provide advice, guidance, support and appropriate challenge to organisations working with children, ensuring that children, young people and families are safeguarded. You will work closely with a range of statutory and voluntary agencies, as well as regulatory bodies, to progress referrals in a timely manner, share information as required, and coordinate the investigative process in response to allegations.

You will be a qualified social worker with extensive post qualifying experience, ideally with some management experience. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to identify and manage risk within a multi-agency context. You must hold current registration with Social Work England. This is a challenging but rewarding role, supported by administrative assistance and offering flexibility to work from home and/or an office base.

Northumberland is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all employees to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

For an informal discussion about the LADO role, please contact Louise Dawson, Senior Independent Reviewing Officer- Louise.Dawson@northumberland.gov.uk
