Job Title: Licensing Assistant (Staff Bank Role) 

Location: West Hardford Fire Station, Cramlington

Salary: £27,711 to £30,060 per annum 

Contract Type: Staff Bank (temporary / ongoing) 


About the Role 

We are seeking a motivated and customer focused Licensing Assistant to join Northumberland County Council’s Staff Bank. This flexible role is key to supporting the delivery of an efficient, professional licensing service across the region.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

Process and administer various types of licences, permits and registrations

Maintain office systems, data management and statutory records

Provide front-line customer service across telephone, face-to-face and written channels

Facilitate and assess taxi driver knowledge tests

Assist with financial procedures including invoicing, payments, and purchasing

Manufacture taxi plates and decals to compliance standards

Handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism

Validate DBS applications and check immigration status

Support wider Licensing Team with administrative projects and data analysis

Maintain and update licensing registers and online resources


Essential Requirements

A good standard of general education with strong literacy and numeracy skills

Experience of working with the public and handling service enquiries

Ability to manage statutory and procedural requirements accurately

Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office

Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities

Commitment to customer service and continuous improvement


Desirable

Experience in licensing or regulatory services

Knowledge of licensing law and relevant legislation

Experience working with government agencies and enforcement bodies

Relevant qualifications in licensing or public protection


Additional Information The role may involve occasional travel within Northumberland and outdoor work in various weather conditions. Flexibility and the ability to work at short notice are essential.


Northumberland County Council’s Staff Bank provides a pool of highly skilled temporary workers who are looking for a long-term placement, or who want to work flexibly within the council. If a team needs support due to sickness, common staff shortages, or general vacancies, they call upon registered bank members to fill available assignments. These can be filled via a long-term assignment for up to 12 months or on an ad hoc basis.

The Staff Bank is managed by the Temporary Staffing Team, who you can contact via temporarystaffing@northumberland.gov.uk.
