This is not a permanent role, but being part of the Staff Bank means you’ll have the chance to take on temporary assignments, ranging from regular shifts to one off jobs, depending on availability and operational need. 

 

About the Role 

As a Labourer, you’ll be a key part of our Voids and Minor Works Team, helping to prepare around 600 council properties across Northumberland each year for re-letting. Based from Cowley Road Depot, you’ll work primarily in the Blyth and Cramlington areas. This is a hands-on, physically demanding role, and ideal for someone practical, reliable, and committed to doing quality work that directly benefits tenants and communities. 

 

Key Details: 

  • Working Time: 8:30am – 4:30pm 
  • Working Days: Monday to Friday (37 hours per week), with occasional overtime 
  • Pay Rate: £12.84 per hour 
  • Locations:  Blyth, Cramlington 

 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Help clear and clean empty (void) properties so inspectors can assess the required works. 
  • Carry out a wide range of tasks such as: 
  • Removing carpets, furniture, and rubbish 
  • Wallpaper stripping and cleaning down kitchen units and extractor fans 
  • Scrubbing down bathrooms and other surfaces in preparation for trades work 
  • Removal of rubble and effects from Garden 
  • Use chemicals safely to clean W/Cs, tiles, grout and more – all training and PPE provided. 
  • Conduct "builder cleans" before vinyl fitting or decoration. 
  • Complete final cleans before properties are re-let, ensuring they meet our void standard. 
  • Identify and resolve minor issues (e.g. W/C seats, plug chains, loose hatches). 
  • Support the minor works team with mould treatments in both empty and occupied homes, you’ll help deliver fast responses to mould issues as legislation changes. 
  • Use handheld electronic devices to receive job information and record work completed. 

 

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Full UK Driving Licence – essential. 
  • Experience in general labouring or property clearance is desirable. 
  • Resilience and ability to work in unpleasant or unhygienic conditions when required. 
  • A team player who can also work independently and follow instructions. 
  • Strong attention to detail – you're often the first and last person in the property. 
  • Comfortable with physical work including lifting, working at height, and outdoors in all weathers.
