ROLE OF THE JOB

The primary function of the Design Team is the design, project management and delivery of our own construction and maintenance schemes for highways and highway structures and those for external clients. With an annual LTP budget of £20M, internal schemes range from the design of major new highways and highway bridges and structures to the strengthening and refurbishment of existing bridges. We manage and design solutions for unstable slopes and retaining structures and engineered slopes. Some recent and ongoing projects include the £30m Morpeth Northern Bypass, the upcoming Blyth Relief Road, the £10m Union Chain Bridge and the £8m Todstead Landslip. We also take a key role in the delivery of schemes such as the £166m Northumberland Line.

We are a growing team looking for a range of candidates to fill Highway Design technician positions.

As part of a growing multi-disciplinary team, you will be involved in:
  • Detailed design of highway maintenance and strengthening schemes and new build projects
  • Management of an asset group which includes 5000 structures with value of £13.6Bn
  • and detailing of highways and highway structures for new build and maintenance schemes.
  • Preparation of engineering drawings used to 
  • Site measurements, surveys and inspections.
  • Production of technical reports.
  • Responding to client requests for information.
  • Day-to-day support to colleagues from other disciplines within the office.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

  • ONC / OND / BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering or other relevant subject area.
  • Broad knowledge of Computer Aided Drawing together with some appreciation of one or more of: Reinforced Concrete Detailing, Steelwork Detailing, Highway Detailing.
  • Appreciation of the main theoretical, procedural, design standards and professional best practice issues relating to the service.
  • An appreciation of the relationship between costs, quality, customer care and performance.
  • Appreciation of professional study and / or personal development.
