This post is fixed term for 2 years and is being funded from Asylum Seeker and Refugee funding. This post will primarily be dealing with clients who present as homeless from the Asylum Seeker and Refugee community.
ROLE OF THE JOB
The Homeless and Housing Options service is a county wide service offering advice and assistance to individuals who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. The team covers the whole of the Northumberland area.
Your role will be to interview/visit clients who are potentially homeless to assess their housing situation prior to any application being made under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017) and to prevent such clients from becoming homeless by providing housing information, advice and assistance to licensee's, tenants, landlords and accommodation agents and owner occupiers. You will support the Homelessness and Housing Options Manager in developing new preventative initiatives, review emerging policies & assist the strategic team in researching the suitability & implementation across the County.
You must have a good standard of education to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent with effective IT skills. You should have detailed working knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation including The Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 & Landlord & Tenant Law along with a sound understanding of housing policies and procedures in a public sector environment, and the ability to provide initial advice regarding finance and welfare benefits is required. A relevant professional would be desirable. This post involves regular travel throughout the County therefore you must be able to meet the transport requirements. When required you will also be on call for out of office hours emergency calls for homeless applicants.
