An opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a fully qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officer (Pollution Control) to become part of the Council’s Public Protection Service.
If a fully qualified officer cannot be recruited, a student graduate appointment will be considered.
The Role
As part of Public Protection’s Pollution Control Team, you may inspect local authority permitted sites, respond to planning consultations, implement the contaminated land strategy, support residents on private water supplies through assessment and improvement interventions, monitor air quality across the district, respond to nuisance complaints, service requests and enquiries, taking necessary enforcement action to improve standards and protect public health and contribute to the development of polices and procedures.
Requirements
The successful candidates will possess a relevant qualification in Environmental Health to degree standard or equivalent, have or be working towards EHRB certificate of registration or equivalent, and preferably significant post qualification pollution control experience with relevant CPD.
As a student graduate, we require a science degree which will allow entry onto the online MSc in Environmental Health at Derby University.
As a qualified officer, you will have experience in a Pollution Control specialism and relevant experience of regulatory enforcement, be an excellent team player and possess competency in organising and dealing with complex routine and proactive casework. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including IT skills are essential.
Experience across the spectrum of environmental health would be desirable.
A Band 8 salary of £38,626 - £42,708 will be offered for a qualified officer (depending upon experience and qualifications).
If a fully qualified officer cannot be recruited, a student graduate appointment will be considered. This would be a Band 6 salary of £30,559- £33,366 to Band 7 salary of £34,314 - £37,938, appointment with conditional progression to a Band 8.
On the Job training and specialist courses and accreditation will be available to the successful qualified candidate. The student post will be dependant on successful completion of the 3year Msc.in Environmental Health (online Derby University).
The posts are based in Cramlington, but will involve travel throughout the County. Our offices in Hexham and Alnwick can also be used.
Applicants must be able to meet the transport requirements of the posts and as such have a valid UK driving license and the use of a vehicle.
The post holder will report to our specialist Senior Environmental Health Officer on a day to day basis, under the management of the Environmental Health Manager (Pollution Control).
