The Service
Northumberland Skills offers residents a variety of full and part-time courses, apprenticeships, and employability advice and support across Northumberland. We are looking to appoint motivated and community-focused Employment Advisers as part of a Triage Employment Support Programme to help residents across the Northumberland area.

These roles are part of a multi-agency initiative delivering a “single front door” approach to help residents access employment, skills, and wellbeing support. Based in the Southeast, West, and North of the county, staff will work across partner organisations using a community and co-location model, engaging with referrals from the NHS, local authorities, VCSEs, and other organisations along with self-referrals.

About the Role
You will meet with residents, complete diagnostics and offer information advice and guidance to triage residents via warm handovers to appropriate services based on individual need and customer choice.  This will include supporting the delivery of the Connect to Work Employment programmes and other employment and skills support services across Northumberland. You will work collaboratively with a wide range of partners supporting the integration of services and reduce duplication through a coordinated, community-based approach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide triage and warm handovers to appropriate services based on individual needs.
  • Track referrals, collect feedback, and support continuous service improvement.
  • Manage a high-volume caseload of participants, identifying any challenges and barriers with finding employment and creating an agreed action plan
  • Collaborate with a wide range of partners including NHS, DWP, Housing Providers, VCS Organisations and Council Services.
  • Employability Support & Employer Engagement

Essential Requirements
  • Experience in community engagement, employability, or health and social care settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to deliver employability support when required including CV, application and interview preparation
  • Ability to use a variety of IT systems proficiently
  • Ability to work across multiple agencies and manage complex referrals and work with autonomy
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle - essential due to outreach nature of the role and the geography of Northumberland.
  • Knowledge of local services and the challenges facing economically inactive residents is desirable.

You should have a can-do attitude and experience in achieving performance and quality assurance targets in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.  It is expected that you will be able to manage your own workload effectively and be able to work autonomously and as part of a team, whilst being responsive and flexible to new demands.
