ROLE OF THE JOB

To train and develop NFRS staff to the standards required of light vehicle and/or large goods vehicle Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) license holders.

To train and develop service staff to the standards required of Roadcraft, the Emergency Response Driving Fire Standard and the NFCC Emergency Response Driver and instructor framework, service protocols and to meet the legislative requirements on a variety of vehicles and specialist equipment used within the NFRS fleet. 

To undertake an assessor role for a variety of vehicles and specialist equipment.

 REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

  • UK Category B driving licence.
  • UK Category C1 licence with manual entitlement. 
  • UK Category C licence with a minimum of 3 years practical driving experience.
  • Demonstrate a high standard in their personal driving (a driving assessment will be undertaken)  
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and interpersonal  
  • Excellent IT skills, covering all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Able to prioritise and organise a busy work schedule, remaining calm and reliable under pressure.  
  • Commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.    
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Available for evening and weekend commitments.  
  • Have an aptitude to work with a flexible attitude.
On completion of training a Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service driving instructor will have achieved the following qualifications:

  1. Successfully qualified as an Emergency Response Driver Class 3 & 4 (80hr)
  2. Successfully qualified as an Emergency Response Driver Class 2 (80hr)
  3. Have successfully completed an adult education and training award.  
  4. Have successfully completed a vocational assessor award.  
  5. Complete the NFCC instructor pathway modules (18 Months)
  6. Qualify as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)
  7. Gain a Health and Safety Qualification (IOSH)
