Job Information
Northumberland is a county of great opportunity. Rich in heritage, diverse in its communities and ambitious for the future, it offers an exceptional place to live, work and visit. Guided by our vision, Northumberland: Land of Great Opportunities, we have transformed into an inclusive, high-performing, resident-focused Council committed to delivering the best outcomes for our communities.
With the forthcoming retirement of our current postholder, we are seeking an outstanding leader to become our next Director of Law & Corporate Governance and Monitoring Officer.
Reporting directly to our Chief Executive, you will provide strategic legal and governance leadership across one of England's largest unitary authorities. As a trusted adviser to elected members and senior officers, you will play a pivotal role in supporting effective decision-making, maintaining the highest standards of governance, and navigating complex and sensitive issues with confidence and integrity.
We are looking for a credible and accomplished legal professional with a calm, pragmatic and collaborative approach, capable of leading with professionalism and delivering confidence across the organisation.
Beyond the role, Northumberland offers an outstanding quality of life. From award-winning coastline and historic landmarks to vibrant market towns and stunning countryside, the county combines natural beauty with a welcoming community and an excellent work-life balance.
This is a rare opportunity to make a lasting impact within a high-performing council while building a rewarding career in one of the UK's most distinctive places.
