Northumberland County Council are on a journey of transformation. At the beginning of the year, we appointed a new Executive management team, including a newly appointed Director of Workforce and Executive Directive of Public Health and Communities.

We recognise the importance and value of being an inclusive employer that celebrates diversity and promotes equity. We are looking to appoint a DEI Manager to join the HR leadership team and to take a lead in embedding the leadership and culture of inclusive working practices; identify and devise training on DEI issues; using metrics to inform our activity and focus our resources; raise DEI awareness across the organisation and be our resident expert for all things DEI in terms of legislation, best practice and policy

The postholder will advise on complex DEI issues and provide generalist support to the wider council to enable and support the implementation of the Councils Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy, ensuring effective delivery of the councils agreed Equality Objectives. The postholder will work closely with Public Health and Communities to ensure the council meets the requirements of the addressing inequalities agenda.

You must have enhanced knowledge and understanding of national, regional and local policy drivers for Equality & Diversity as well as the ability to interpret these in the context of the county. A degree or equivalent work-based experience in a relevant field of study applicable to the role. You will have significant experience of negotiating and influencing decision making processes in relation to county wide strategy/policy. Although not essential, experience of negotiating DEI programmes with a broad range of stakeholders on behalf of the statutory sector and previous experience of delivering community-based DEI programmes would be desirable.
