Care Worker – Staff Bank Pool

Northumberland County Council is seeking Care Workers to join our Staff Bank Pool. This pool is for candidates who are interested in being considered for future temporary roles as Care Workers across various care settings, including Residential Care, Learning Disabilities, and Home Care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the provision of physical, personal, and emotional care to service users in order to promote independence and help them achieve their maximum potential.
- Maintain a safe, hygienic, and supportive environment in accordance with the service’s culture, standards, and objectives.
- Communicate appropriately with service users, colleagues, and senior staff, ensuring that the needs of service users are met effectively.
- Act as a link worker for nominated service users and contribute to evaluating care plans.
- Administer medication in accordance with service procedures and maintain appropriate records.
- Assist with personal care, the preparation and serving of meals, and other practical support as required by the service plan.
- Deal with emergencies and contingencies as per the service’s guidelines.
- Adhere to all relevant legislation, policies, and regulations (e.g., CQC, National Standards, and Codes of Conduct).
- If required, drive service vehicles to transport service users across Northumberland, including minibuses.
- Ensure that the welfare and safety of service users is prioritized at all times.
What We’re Looking For:
- A good general education, demonstrating literacy and numeracy.
- NVQ Level 2 in Care (learner grade will apply until completed).
- Experience working in a caring role (experience with a relevant client group is desirable).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to form appropriate relationships with service users and colleagues.
- Knowledge of and the ability to follow individual service user plans, risk assessments, and moving and transferring plans.
- Flexible and able to adapt to change while maintaining a cooperative attitude.
- Driver’s license and the ability to meet the transport requirements of the role (including use of service vehicles).
- An understanding of and commitment to quality person-centred care and the CQC Standards.

Northumberland County Council’s Staff Bank provides a pool of highly skilled temporary workers who are looking for a long-term placement, or who want to work flexibly within the council. If a team needs support due to sickness, common staff shortages, or general vacancies, they call upon registered bank members to fill available assignments. These can be filled for 3 months or via a long-term assignment for up to 12 months on an ad hoc basis only.

The Staff Bank is managed by the Temporary Staffing Team, who you can contact via temporarystaffing@northumberland.gov.uk.
