ROLE OF THE JOB
We are looking to appoint a permanent, full-time Built Heritage and Design Officer.
This is an exciting opportunity to protect and promote Northumberland’s unique built heritage. Working within the multi-disciplinary Environment and Design Team, you will work with our team of Built Heritage and Design Officers to deliver a full building conservation service across the County. You will provide advice on planning applications and development proposals and will liaise with other stakeholders, providing conservation and design advice to ensure the protection, maintenance and enhancement of Northumberland's rich historic built environment.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated Conservation expert with experience of working with the built historic environment and within the planning system.
You will need knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and guidance, proficiency in the preparation of reports, with good writing skills and the ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with applicants and developers and engage with elected members and the public.
You will have a degree or postgraduate qualification in Historic Building Conservation, Urban Design, Architecture or other relevant subject, with knowledge of historic building design and construction. Accredited Membership of IHBC is highly desirable.
You will have effective time management, excellent communication skills and be committed to providing a customer-focused service. The post involves travel throughout the County, therefore you must be able to meet the transport requirements.
