ROLE OF THE JOB

Northumberland County Council are recruiting for an exciting new position in our Central Waste Team. The role of Assistant Resources and Waste Contracts and Commercial Manager is a key role to allow NCC to meet the high-profile regulatory opportunities and challenges faced by the industry. You will be working closely with the Resources and Waste Contracts and Commercial Manager to support in the management of the PFI contract as well as managing a small team of highly motivated officers dealing with a wide range of waste related duties and responsibilities.

From a local authority perspective, it is an exciting time to work in the waste industry with a once in a generation change taking place, driven by a new suite of requirements in the form of Simpler Recycling, Extended Producer Responsibility, Deposit Return Scheme, and the future Emissions Trading Scheme.

The team operate a hybrid working model, primarily based out of County Hall, Morpeth one day per week. This role will require the successful candidate to also attend Cowley Road Depot in Blyth at least one day per week.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

  • A strategic, innovative, and performance-focused leader with significant waste industry experience
  • Degree level or equivalent standard of general education or extensive/significant experience
  • Thorough understanding of relevant legislation, regulations including EPR, DRS and Simpler Recycling and professional best practice,
  • Experience of working on a PFI contract
  • Numerate and able to effectively analyse and interpret complex business statistics.
  • Valid UK driving license
